Safe Ride

Page history last edited by callicottb@... 1 yr ago

For students in need of a ride home at night, the Charleston Black Cab Company and the Yellow Cab Company provide a ride to a safe location for students in a dangerous or emergency situation or as an alternative to walking alone.

SAFERIDE transportation is limited to the downtown City of Charleston limits and operates between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.  A call must be placed to dispatch a cab and “SAFERIDE” must be mentioned to the dispatcher; flagging a cab is not an option.  The SAFERIDE dispatcher may need to call if there is a problem or delay. Guest riders will be charged for the transportation.  Please consider tipping the driver, and please know that there can be a wait for cab service.

Students are asked to show their CofC ID card, and if that is not available, they are to give the driver the student ID number with their name.  Voucher cards for the program are available, but not required.   They are a resource for information, and can be picked up in all residence halls, Public Safety, Stern Student Center, and Addlestone Library.

It is suggested that students keep these numbers readily available:

843-577-6565 - SAFERIDE Yellow Cab

843-216-2627 – SAFERIDE Charleston Black Cab

843-953-5609 Public Safety for on-campus escorts

911 – for emergencies
