Reference books and periodicals check out

Page history last edited by callicottb@... 1 mo ago
Procedures for circulating Reference books and Periodicals.

1.         Reference books and periodicals can be circulated for short periods of time, for most purposes - 2 hours for student checkout and up to three days for faculty.
These materials may be circulated for special uses like class presentations, having slides or color copies made, etc.

2.                   The circulating of these materials is at the discretion of the reference staff working the reference desk at the time the request is made.
Extraordinary requests can be referred to the Head of the Reference Department or in his/her absence, the Assistant Head of the department.

3.                   The checkout procedure is as follows:

A reference checkout form is filled out at the reference desk by the reference staff.

The checkout form along with the material and a barcoded “checkout envelop” is given to the patron and he/she is asked to take it to the circulation desk where it will be checked out. (This is only true for periodicals.  The reference books have a barcode so the envelop isn’t necessary, just the form)

4.         The form and, when nec. the envelop, is then filed at the Circulation desk in a blue plastic file box, until the item is returned (at the circulation desk).

5.         When returned, the item will be discharged and the empty envelope and material will be returned to Reference/Periodicals.

6.         In the event of overdue material, notices will be generated by the system and in the case of students, normal overdue procedures will apply.

7.          In the case of faculty, circulation will notify reference and they may proceed to contact the faculty member. Faculty will not be charged overdue fines.

8.         Statistics should be generated for the circulation of these items.
